TITLE: Motor of electric bicycle for working with cassette
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Technical Field
The present invention relates to motors of electric bicycles, and more particularly to a motor of an electric bicycle for working with a cassette. 2. Description of Related Art A drive unit of an electric bicycle usually comprises a rear motor and a speed control system. Thus, the rear motor has to be equipped with a freewheel gear cluster. Traditionally, a rear motor is provided with a rotary flywheel. However, since a cassette is superior to such a rotary flywheel in the following areas, in bicycle industry, rotary flywheels have been gradually replaced by cassettes. First, a cassette is capable of outputting higher speed. Secondly, a cassette is more strength and more light weighted. Third, a cassette supports easier replacement and maintenance of parts. Fourth, a cassette allows smoother pedaling frequency. Cassettes are now the mainstream for the development of electric bicycles.
Currently, a cassette and a rear motor are usually combined by installing the column base of the cassette inside the motor, with the column base and the end cap of the motor engaged by means of threads. However, the column base is typically made of iron, while the end cap is usually made of aluminum alloy, and such a difference in terms of material can cause damaged threads on either the end cap or the column base over time. Beside, such a fixed assembly is quite unfavorable to perform part replacement and maintenance. In addition, since the column base is simply installed into the end cap without any designs for preventing water and dust, the motor is not properly protected and tends to get damaged by water and dust over time.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The primary objective of the present invention is to provide a motor of and electric bicycle for working with a cassette, wherein a column base of the cassette is fastened outside the motor, so as to facilitate disassembly and maintenance. Since the column base and the end cap are combined with improved reliability, the motor is compatible with various commercially available cassettes.
To achieve the foregoing objective, the disclosed motor comprises a motor shaft, an end cap, a column base, and a fastener. The motor shaft has a plurality of steps. The end cap rotatably is deposited on one of the steps. The column base has a clamping portion and a main body. The column base is rotatably deposited on one of the steps of the motor shaft so that the clamping portion and the end cap engage with each other. The clamping portion is such engaged with the end cap that the column base is allowed to perform unidirectional rotation with respect to the end cap. The fastener is detachably deposited on the motor shaft, thereby positioning the column base.
In one embodiment of the present invention, the motor shaft is stepped and has a first step, a second step, a third step and a fourth step that are progressively decreased in terms of radial size. The column base has a clamping portion and a main body that are progressively increased in terms of radial size. The end cap has one end passing through the first bearing and mounted around the second step. The first bearing is retained at one side of the first step. The clamping portion is placed inside the end cap from an opposite end of the end cap and is mounted around the second step. The clamping portion has its outer periphery engaged with the inner periphery of the end cap by means of a pawl and a ratchet. The main body is mounted around the third step with a second bearing, and the second bearing is retained at one side of the second step. The fastener is fixedly mounted around the fourth step and the fastener one end is retained at one side of the third step.
In one preferred embodiment of the present invention, an iron ratchet ring and an iron insert mounted around the ratchet ring are provided. The iron insert and the ratchet ring are engaged with each other with threads. The iron insert is integratedly formed on the inner periphery of the end cap. The iron insert is mounted around the second step by means of the first bearing. Thereby, the end cap and the column base are combined with improved reliability.
In one preferred embodiment of the present invention, the clamping portion and the main body are both stepped, and the clamping portion has its radial size smaller than that of the main body. At the border between the clamping portion and the main body, a transitional step and an annular flange are successively provided for axially positioning the ratchet ring. The iron insert has a first retaining portion that is protrudent between the first bearing and the ratchet ring, and a second retaining portion that extends toward the main body. The ratchet ring has one side retained at the first retaining portion and a reverse side retained at the transitional step. The transitional step, the ratchet ring, the second retaining portion, and the flange jointly define an accommodating space, in which an O-ring is positioned and mounted around the clamping portion for preventing dust and water.
In one preferred embodiment of the present invention, the fastener has a groove formed on its inner periphery, and a seal ring is deposited in the groove for preventing dust and water.
In one preferred embodiment of the present invention, the main body has an oil seal at its end facing away the end cap. The oil seal is mounted around the fastener for preventing dust and water.
In one preferred embodiment of the present invention, the fastener and the fourth step are engaged mutually by means of threads, thereby further positioning the column base and the end cap.
With the aforementioned technical features of the present invention, the clamping portion of the column base and the end cap are engaged with each other by means of the pawl and the ratchet, thereby ensuring that the column base can only unidirectionally rotate with respect to the end cap. The first bearing and the second bearing limit the column base and the end cap to axial rotation with respect to the motor shaft. With the limiting effects of the stepped motor shaft and the fastener, the column base and the end cap are positioned at predetermined axial positions on the motor shaft. As compared to the prior art where the column base of the cassette is fixedly assembled to the interior of the end cap of the motor, the present invention has the column base fixed outside the motor by means of the fastener, thereby facilitating disassembly and maintenance of the column base.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view of one preferred embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 2 is a partial cross-sectional view of the preferred embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 3 is an exploded view of the preferred embodiment of the present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Referring to FIG. 1, FIG. 2 and FIG. 3, in the present invention,.a motor of an electric bicycle for working with a cassette primarily comprises a motor shaft 1, an end cap 2, a column base 3, and a fastener 4. The electric bicycle uses the motor to drive the motor shaft 1 to output power, and the column base 3 is for receiving the cassette for controlling speed.
The present invention technically features that the motor shaft 1 has a stepped cross-section formed by a first step 11, a second step 12, a third step 13 and fourth step 14 progressively decreased in terms of radial size. The column base 3 comprises a clamping portion 31 and a main body 32 that are progressively increased in terms of radial size. The clamping portion 31 and the main body 32 have their cross-sections stepped. The clamping portion 31 has a radial size smaller than that of the main body 32. At the border between the clamping portion 31 and the main body 32, there are a transitional step 33 and an annular flange 34 provided successively.
The end cap 2 at its one end has an iron insert 8 integratedly formed on its inner periphery. The iron insert 8 is internally peripherally provided with a ratchet ring 7. The iron insert 8 and the ratchet ring 7 are mutually engaged by means of threads. The end cap 2 has its end that has the iron insert 8 mounted around the second step 12 with a first bearing 5. The first bearing 5 is retained at one side of the first step 11. The clamping portion 31 enters the end cap 2 from the other end of the end cap 2, and is mounted around the second step 12. The iron insert 8 has a first retaining portion 81 that is protrudent between the first bearing 5 and the ratchet ring 7, and a second retaining portion 82 extending toward the main body 32. The ratchet ring 7 has its one side retained at the first retaining portion 81, and a reverse side retained at the transitional step 33. The transitional step 33, the ratchet ring 7, the second retaining portion 82, and the flange 34 jointly define an accommodating space. In the accommodating space, there is an O-ring 9 mounted around the clamping portion 31. The outer periphery of the clamping portion 31 and the inner periphery of the end cap 2 are engaged with each other by means of a pawl and the ratchet ring 7.
